Alexa became a Poverty Studies minor because she "...wants to be able to serve those in poverty in [her] career as a doctor." She is interested in pursuing service in her career through organizations such as Doctors Without Borders. She also is interested in teaching and is considering participating in Teach for America upon graduation. In the past, Alexa has been involved with medical mission trips with her father through the organization: SmileTrain. She says: "This experience has led me to want to learn more about poverty in the US and the world so that I can eventually do something to help."
