Brianna Sammons

Year: 2012
Hometown: Rensselaer, IN
Dorm: Off-campus, previously lived in Welsh Family Hall
Major(s)/Minor(s): Sociology Major, Poverty Studies Minor
Brianna became really interested in poverty because it became apparent to her that it underlies a lot of issues that we've had in the United States and around the world. One of my favorite parts about the minor is that it is interdisciplinary and thus represents the fact that poverty affects all aspects of our society and cannot be confined to just one field.
Brianna has taken several Community Based Learning courses, worked at a Boys and Girls Club in San Diego, California, as a part of the SSLP program, participated in the Lives in the Balance: Youth and Society Seminar in Indianapolis, volunteered at the Center for the Homeless and the South Bend Juvenile Justice Facility and spent time at the Catholic Worker in South Bend.
Brianna studied abroad in Chile for a semester last year.
