Lisa Chin
Year: 2014
Hometown: Grafton, WI
Dorm: Pangborn Hall
Major(s)/Minor(s): Psychology and Poverty Studies
Lisa became a Poverty Studies minor because she says, "Poverty is everywhere, and it is a social concern that is impossible to ignore. I consider it my responsibility to educate myself on the workings of poverty, and apply my knowledge in my everyday life."
Lisa plans to put this minor into action in her future, particularly in urban settings when working with school systems and children.
Thus far, Lisa has participated in the Urban Plunge and SSLP Programs through the Center for Social Concerns. Lisa says, "Working at the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence in MA for my SSLP was one of the best experiences of my life, and it exposed me to the dynamics of poverty in a context I had not seen before." Lisa hopes to partake in an ISSLP in the future, and continue learning about poverty through immersions.
An interesting fact about Lisa is that after graduation, she would like to take a trip around the world!
