Ryan became a poverty studies minor after his ISSLP working at an orphanage in Mbour, Senegal the summer of 2011. He is the current president of the Children’s Defense Fund chapter on campus that arranges Friday night activities for the children at the South Bend Center for the Homeless. Aspiring to become a pediatrician, he is particularly interested in aspects of poverty relating to the inequity of healthcare access for children in both the US and developing countries.
Ryan commits himself to the words of his personal hero Nelson Mandela who eloquently reminds us, “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
